In a blink of an eye, the heat goes to the cold comes. The temperature continues to drop after the beginning of winter, which means that the cold winter has arrived. For anglers, winter fishing has begun. Here I have to talk about the necessary bait for our winter fishing – red worm bait.
Red worms are most parts of our countryWinter fishingThe first choice bait, especially in late autumn and winter, hanging in the northern wildFishing crucian carpA must-have bait at the time. The proverb says: “There are earthworms in spring and faces in summer, and red worms in autumn and winter are the first choice.” This shows that red worms occupy an absolute position in fishing baits in late autumn and winter. Whether it is fishing in the winter water in the north,Ice fishingIt is also a low temperature fishing on the ice-free water surface in the south in winter. Red worms are excellent bait for fishing for crucian carp. So, how much do you know about red worm bait?
1. Introduction to Red Worm Bait
Red worms are larvae of chiropractors. There are as many as 5,000 chiropractors in nature, and they are distributed from glacial polar swamps to plain plateaus. And the red worms sold in our fishing gear store are just a few of them.
However, because red worms have parasites, they are not as easy to raise as earthworms, they are mostly criticized by fishermen as bait. But it has to be admitted that in winter, the red worm bait is stillEarthworm baitandCommodity baitIrreplaceable.
Red worms can be divided into large red worms and small red worms according to their body length (usually 20 to 30 mm) diameter (about 1 mm). Large red worms are commonly known as “public worms”. The diameter is greater than 1 mm, the body is thick and plump, bright red color, and the head is blue-black. Small red worms, also known as “female worms”, have a diameter of less than 1 mm, a small body, a black-green head, and a light red color. Compared with large red worms, they are prone to death, difficult to raise, and difficult to preserve.
After understanding these characteristics of red worms, we can choose when fishing.
2. Techniques for choosing red insect bait in winter
According to the characteristics of red worms, when using red worms as bait, whether they are purchased at a fishing gear store or collected by themselves, you should pay attention to the length and diameter of the red worms to see if they are round and full, and whether they are bright red. You should give priority to those big and large red worms with big heads and large diameters, and do not choose those small red worms with dull colors and slender bodies. Because small red worms are not only difficult to tie and consume more, but also have a dull color and poor activity, they are less attractive to fish and are not easily found and swallowed by fish. On the contrary, if the large red worm is tied to the hook, it is highly active and bright in the water, and it is easy to attract fish to come and eat. At the same time, it is also avoided that the small red worm hook is easily swallowed by small fish, causing the small head to be sent to float but not caught, and the phenomenon that only a layer of skin attached to the hook will be left after being swallowed by small fish and lose its temptation effect.
Secondly, be careful not to choose those black dead insects, because their fishing ability is poor and will pollute the living red insects. Therefore, whether it is to preserve or fish, you must sort out dead insects.
Finally, be sure to squeeze the red worm with your hands (preferably wearing gloves) to see if the blood inside is a normal and bright color. If it has a dark color, its activity may be reduced or it is on the verge of death due to storage or long-distance transportation. Such red worms are not easy to preserve or have poor fishing effects.
3. Tips for using red insect bait in winter
When fishing in winter, red worms are often involved in hooking. It is best to wear gloves when tied with hooks, because red worms have parasites, and it will be troublesome if the parasites enter the human body when they are injured in their hands or other parts of the body. When tying hooks, do not let red worms pass directly through the hooks to prevent their blood from flowing out, which reduces their activity or even dies. Generally, the following two methods are used to connect the hook
1. Bundling method: Tie the large red worms together with thin rubber bands or thin threads, usually in a group of two to four lines, and then wrap the rubber bands or threads on the hook, be careful not to fall off.
2. Powder sticking method: Place the red worm on the powder and then attach the hook. The powder sticking is sticky and can be kept on the hook for a long time! Of course, the red worm companion is also fine. The red worm companion and the red worm cooperate with each other are good for making nests or luring fishing!
The weather is getting colder, anglers, don’t delay fishing because of serious business~ In my next article, I will continue to introduce other precautions for using red worm bait. Everyone is welcome to read~
