Preface: Hello everyone, I am from the “800,000 Air Force Chief Instructor” of the Fishing Home Forum. I think the float adjustment skills are the essence of Taiwan fishing. There are many ways to adjust the fishing, and everyone has their own set of methods. The most troublesome thing for many novices is to adjust the float. This article will explain the most common half-water float adjustment skills for Taiwanese fishing, and will teach novices a set of very simple methods to determine how much to adjust and what to fish.

Prerequisite for adjusting float: Before explaining, let’s talk about two strange phenomena that many fishing friends have encountered. After adjusting the float, I started fishing with bait. I clearly adjusted the float to fish for four or five eyes, but sometimes it turned into fishing for four or five eyes, but sometimes it sank to the bottom of the water and can’t be seen. It’s obviously very flat bottom, why is this phenomenon happening? Or it turns into one eye after the float is in place. The rod is slightly forward and then it turns into two eyes and three eyes. I think it is a fish who eats the mouth and lifts the rod but has nothing. In fact, apart from the unevenness of the bottom of the water, the biggest possibility is that this phenomenon is caused by the rod throwing problem. Please see the picture below.

The same line group in Figure 1, Figure 2, has the same mesh number of adjustments. Figure 1 cast rod is very full, the wind line is tight, and the water line is oblique. At this time, the point in the floating seat of Figure 1 is lower than the point in the floating seat of Figure 2 (the dotted line is assuming that the water line is translated, so the geometric problem is not explained much). Therefore, the float in Figure 1 is lower than that in Figure 2. At this time, if the rod in Figure 1 is sent forward, the float will rise.

Tips for adjusting half-water floats in Taiwan: After understanding the above phenomenon, we started to adjust the floats. There are two prerequisites for adjusting the floats. The first is that the rod is not thrown, and the wind line is bent as explained above; the second is that the line group is reasonable, and fish different fish in different waters, choose different floats with lead, and choose lines of suitable thickness and hooks of appropriate size. Line group selection is not the main content discussed in this article, we only talk about adjusting floats. Here we use the most common half-water drifting technique, as shown in the figure below:

First, let’s look at Figure 3. The double hooks are off the ground and float out of the water. At this time, the entire line group below the float is suspended in half water, so our platform fishing method is called “half water float adjustment technique”.

Then we started to adjust the float step by step. Step 1: Hang a heavy lead sinker to let the lead to the end, adjust the float to reveal a glance (the specific number of mesh mentioned in this article is for the convenience of description. The actual operation is determined according to your needs, and I will not repeat it later). This step is to find the depth of water and make sure you have a clear understanding of the process of drift adjustment.

In the second step, Figure 2, pull the float seat downward, the pulling distance is the length of the long sub-line +5 to 10 cm. This step is to let the hook leave the ground smoothly in the next step.

Step 3: Do not move the rest, just trim the lead pendant until the float is exposed to the water surface. At this time the hook has left the ground. At this step, be careful when cutting the lead pendant, and do not cut it too much to prevent it from being cut too much.

Step 4 and Step 5 Figure 4 and Figure 5: The double hooks are normally used to raise the bait (note that the bait is the bait used for fishing this time. If you use pull bait for fishing, then hang the bait for fishing. If you use rubbing bait, then hang the bait for fishing). Slowly move the float upward until the float has two eyes exposed.

The above five steps are completed, which is to adjust the four fishing two (the four fishing two here is different from the four fishing two in Taiwan twenty years ago. There is no need to be serious, it is just for the sake of clearly describing).
